On 21 March 2026, Don Bosco Migrant Services (DBMS), represented by Fr. Arokia Doss, Assistant Director, along with DBMS staff, visited Somangalam Police Station in Katrambakkam, Chennai, in response to a reported suicide case involving a migrant worker named Birsha Dangga (25). The visit was undertaken to understand the situation, extend support, and ensure proper coordination among the concerned stakeholders during this difficult time.
According to the information available, the deceased had allegedly taken his own life due to family-related issues. In light of this incident, DBMS engaged with members of the All Assam Youth Welfare Association, who were present to support the victim’s family. The interaction focused on providing guidance, emotional support, and facilitating communication to help the family navigate the situation. DBMS also ensured that the concerns of the migrant community were addressed with sensitivity and care.
In addition, the team communicated with the landlord to ensure that necessary arrangements were made in a timely and appropriate manner. This included coordinating logistical aspects and ensuring that due procedures were followed without causing further distress to the family. The involvement of DBMS helped in creating a supportive environment and bridging communication between the family, community representatives, and local authorities.
The presence of DBMS at the police station played a crucial role in offering immediate assistance and reassurance to those affected. The intervention reflected the organization’s commitment to standing in solidarity with migrant communities, especially during times of crisis. Overall, the visit facilitated coordination, provided emotional and practical support, and ensured that the situation was handled with dignity and compassion.
