08 January, 2025

Chennai, January 8, 2025 – In a significant step towards ensuring healthcare accessibility for migrant laborers, Don Bosco Migrant Welfare Organization, in collaboration with GeethaAmmaiyar Construction Workers Welfare Association, Purasaivakkam, successfully facilitated the registration of 104 construction workers under the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat medical insurance scheme. The event took place at 11 AM at the organization’s premises, marking a crucial milestone in providing social security to marginalized workers.
The registered workers, hailing from Chennai, Semmancheri, and other migrant labor communities, have now been enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which offers medical coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year. This initiative aims to provide essential healthcare support and reduce the financial burden on laborers in times of medical emergencies.
Speaking at the event, representatives from both organizations emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare for migrant workers who often lack social security benefits. The initiative was met with overwhelming response from the workers, who expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to secure medical insurance coverage.
The registration drive is a testament to the ongoing efforts of Don Bosco Migrant Welfare Organization in advocating for the rights and well-being of construction laborers. Moving forward, the organization aims to extend similar welfare programs to more communities, ensuring that every worker has access to essential healthcare services.
With continued collaboration and support from various welfare associations, this initiative marks a pivotal step in bridging the gap between vulnerable workers and vital healthcare services, reaffirming the commitment to holistic welfare and social security for migrant laborers.
