08 March, 2026
On 08 March 2026, Don Bosco Migrant Services (DBMS) organized an awareness and ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) registration program for migrant workers at the brick kiln chambers. The main objective of the program was to create awareness among workers about the importance of digital health systems and to facilitate their enrollment in the ABHA scheme, which enables individuals to maintain and access their health records digitally. A total of around 40 migrant workers actively participated in the session, showing interest in understanding how digital health services can support their well-being and access to medical care.
During the session, the DBMS team provided a detailed yet simple explanation of the benefits of the ABHA Card. Workers were informed that the ABHA Card helps in securely storing their medical history, making it easily accessible across hospitals and healthcare providers. The session also highlighted how the card reduces the need for carrying physical documents and ensures continuity in treatment, especially for migrant workers who frequently move from one place to another for employment. The awareness session was conducted in an interactive manner, allowing participants to ask questions, clarify their doubts, and better understand the practical uses of the ABHA system in their daily lives.
Following the awareness session, the team proceeded with the registration process. However, a significant challenge was identified during this stage. It was observed that only about 10 out of the 40 workers had their mobile numbers linked with their Aadhaar cards, which is a mandatory requirement for completing the ABHA registration. Due to this limitation, the registration could be successfully completed only for those 10 workers who met the required criteria. The remaining workers, although interested, were unable to complete the registration process at that time.
In response to this challenge, the DBMS team guided the workers on the importance of linking their mobile numbers with their Aadhaar cards. They were informed about the steps involved in completing this process and were encouraged to do so at the earliest. The team also assured them of support in future sessions to complete their ABHA registration once the necessary requirements are fulfilled. This follow-up approach aims to ensure that more workers can benefit from digital health services in the coming days.
Overall, the program was successful in raising awareness about the significance of digital healthcare among migrant workers and in initiating the process of ABHA registration. Although the number of completed registrations was limited, the session created a strong foundation for future interventions and highlighted the need for improving digital accessibility and preparedness among migrant communities. DBMS continues to remain committed to empowering migrant workers by enhancing their access to essential services, including healthcare, through consistent outreach and support initiatives.
