Building Confidence and potential For Brick Kilns Children
On May 15, 2023, DBMS launched a unique summer programme for children who work in brick kilns. Along with schooling, nutrition is a major issue for the children of our brick kilns. These children have been deprived of their fundamental rights, like the right to nutrition, the right to education, and the right to play, among others. On the first day, we gathered
the children from various chambers so they could take part in the significant event. 145 students from the RER, GRT, PVR, VBW, and VBI chambers attended one camp at Puduvoyal. In comparison, Pondavakkam has 60 children from the SSB and PSR chambers. On the first day, when the groups had been established and divided, the programme was started in the evening.
We performed party games and distributed candy on the first day.
Day 2 (16/05/2023) At 9:15 a.m., the summer camp curriculum activities started. Action songs were taught, and group game competitions were held today. Kids were taught the fundamentals of sketching and drawing. They drew buildings, flowers, and circles. After that, they used crayons to paint the drawings.
They learned how to fold a boat and an aeroplane during the origami lesson. They were all quite content and engaged in the competition to the fullest. After preparing and providing the children’s meals and announcing the events for the following day, the day was officially over.
Day 3 (17/05/2023): The summer camp programme began at 9:15 a.m.There were 138 children who participated from PVR, GRT, RER, VBW, and VBI chambers. Today, group songs and dance competitions
were conducted for the children. Art and Craft: The clay modelling session had the children making cups and utensils. According to the group, they performed, and the programme was highly active; all the children were involved in all the competitions. At the end, we all made them dance together, so all the children were dancing and enjoying the day. The events for the next day were announced, and with refreshments, the
programme came to a conclusion.
The summer camp’s fourth day (18 May 2023) saw the start of many activities. The kids participated in all of the competitions that day, including the singing, dancing, and gaming competitions as well as the art and craft projects
On May 19, Puduvoyal saw the start of the last day of the summer camp curriculum. The atmosphere was joyful from the start of the last day. In the PVR, GRT, RER, VBW, and VBI chambers, around 170 children are actively participating. The program’s organisers invited each parent to come and see it. The parents and kids were overjoyed with their kids, and the parents thanked DBMS for giving the kids such a wonderful environment to learn and develop.
Fr. Francis Bosco, the head of Don Bosco Migrant Services, attended the programme. The organisers did a good job of preparing the kids for the cultural event, and they gladly participated in all the activities. Fr. Bosco thanked and complimented the organisers for their unselfish devotion. After the children’s lunch was served, the programme was over.
