Introduction: On April 16th, 2024, Don Bosco Migrants Service (DBMS) encountered a distressing situation involving migrant workers from MPN Labours who were facing unsafe conditions. Upon receiving a letter detailing their plight, our team immediately initiated an investigation to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected individuals.

Background: The MPN Labours, a group of migrant workers, reached out to DBMS seeking help due to their precarious situation. It was revealed that they had been subjected to exploitation by their main contractor, who had withheld a significant portion of their salaries amounting to Rs. 1,25,000. This unjust treatment left the workers in a vulnerable state, prompting urgent intervention from our team.

Intervention and Resolution: Upon uncovering the egregious exploitation faced by the migrant workers, DBMS swiftly intervened to address the situation. Our team engaged in dialogue with the owner of the Brick Kilns where the workers were employed, highlighting the unjust practices and advocating for the rights of the affected individuals. As a result of our efforts, the Brick Kilns owner acknowledged the wrongdoing and agreed to allow the labors to return to their hometown.

Assistance and Support: In collaboration with relevant authorities and stakeholders, DBMS took proactive steps to ensure the safe repatriation of the migrant workers to their hometown. We facilitated the booking of their transportation and organized the necessary arrangements to ensure their safe journey back home. Additionally, our team provided emotional support and guidance to the workers throughout the process, offering reassurance and solidarity during this challenging time.

Conclusion: The case study exemplifies the critical role played by DBMS in safeguarding the rights and well-being of migrant workers. Through prompt action, advocacy, and support, we were able to intervene effectively and secure a positive outcome for the affected individuals.
