Eye Camp by Don Bosco Migrant Services at L&T, Perumbakkam
Don Bosco Migrant Services (DBMS), as part of its ongoing commitment to the welfare and well-being of migrant communities, organized a one-day free eye camp at L&T, Perumbakkam. This initiative aimed to provide accessible healthcare services, particularly eye care, to migrant laborers who often lack sufficient access to essential health facilities.
The primary objectives of the eye camp were:
To offer free eye examinations to migrant laborers.
To provide corrective measures in the form of free reading and prescription glasses.
To raise awareness about eye health and prevent long-term vision problems among laborers, who are at risk due to the nature of their work and limited access to healthcare services.
Activities Conducted:
The camp commenced with a detailed eye check-up by a team of qualified optometrists and healthcare professionals. The eye examinations were comprehensive, including vision acuity tests, refraction assessments, and screening for common eye conditions such as cataracts and refractive errors.
Based on the results of these assessments, individuals who required corrective eyewear were provided with reading and prescription glasses, free of charge. This initiative was especially beneficial for those whose livelihoods depend on clear vision, contributing to both their personal and professional well-being.
A total of 157 migrant laborers attended the camp and benefited from the services provided. Each individual received personalized care and, where necessary, glasses suited to their specific vision needs.
The impact of this initiative was significant, as many of the beneficiaries had never had access to proper eye care or corrective eyewear. By addressing this important health concern, DBMS continues to make strides in improving the quality of life for the migrant community in Perumbakkam and surrounding areas.
