SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION AND INTEGRATION

Don Bosco Migrant Services (DBMS) recently hosted an enlightening orientation program, specifically crafted for the firstyear Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students from Stella
Maris College, along with novices of the FSJ congregation. The meticulous design of the
orientation sought to provide an in-depth elucidation of the various functions and humanitarian efforts carried out by DBMS.

Complementing this theoretical foundation, the program included a strategic field visit, allowing participants to observe and engage with the real-world application of social work principles. This practical exposure was intended to consolidate their understanding of the theoretical knowledge imparted during the orientation by witnessing the direct impact of DBMS’s work on the migrant community.

Moreover, the orientation served as an enlightening educational tool, especially for those previously unaware of the complex challenges faced by migrants hailing from diverse states.
It emerged as a powerful instrument for awakening, offering novel i n s i g h t s into the assimilation of these individuals into our societal fabric. The initiative proved to be
a pivotal step in cultivating a more empathetic and supportive ethos for the inclusion and assistance of new societal members.

In addition to raising consciousness, the program advocated for a holistic approach to social work education, emphasizing the significance of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into p r a c t i c e .

regardless of their origin.
